A 13-year-old school girl from Glasgow
has invented a solar-p powered heated
blanket to help homeless people keep
warm, which is now being used by a
homeless charity in Scotland. Rebecca's
invention has earned her the prestigious
title of one of Time magazine's girls of
the year. She first came up with the
idea when she was 12 whilst attending an
engineering club at her school. I came
up with the idea of the solar power
heated blanket because I remembered
seeing lots of homeless people when I
went out. So I thought of helping them.
My invention works by taking energy from
the sun during the day through the solar
panels and then that energy gets stored
in a battery pack which can then be used
to heat up a blanket during the night.
It feels amazing that my invention is
being used in homeless charities because
it feels great that it can actually help
people.
